Tyra Banks says she is on a mission to empower women. At Monday’s IAB MIXX conference in New York City, Banks spoke at a keynote panel with IAB CEO Randall Rothenberg and Demand Media’s Joanne Bradford about her newest venture with her company, Bankable Media, to empower women by creating the content that they are asking for in the here and now.

Banks says she wants to create a platform where women can learn about and discuss the fashion and beauty issues they are already discussing online. Banks is partnering with Demand Media to cull content topics from real women searching and chatting online, in the hope of engaging women and empowering them by providing the type of content they seek.
Banks has always been a social figure, well known for reaching out to her audiences on television and to her more than 2 million Twitter followers. Now, she is leveraging her TV audience and social presence — along with search data — in a quest to create the best platform to serve her fans.

Lessons gleaned from Banks’ newest venture?

•Empower your audience. The data is available and the demand exists, so do your homework and listen up.
•Leverage your network by pulling in the experts you know who can speak to your audience on the topics they care about. Knowing what they want is half the battle — so when you do know that, make sure you go all out to give it to them.
•Use your social channels to ask for feedback on what your business is doing — or not doing — to best serve customers. Banks says she frequently surveys her Twitter following to ask for advice and suggestions on her business ventures.
Banks may be on a mission to empower women, but in doing so she is highlighting one of the most important tenets of social media: empowering the audience. By bringing them into the content equation, she’s moving toward a new kind of user-generated content — that which people suggest without even knowing it.

There’s a slight circus atmosphere surrounding Tyra Banks. Not that Banks got the memo – she’s nothing but calm, collected and charming as she settles into a comfy couch to talk to WH, nonplussed by the cameras, security guards and group of fans outside.

The 36-year-old creator of reality TV series America’s Next Top Model (ANTM) – which she’s also hosted, executive produced and judged on since it launched seven years ago – is used to this kind of chaos. She’s been in the spotlight since the age of 17, when she gave up spots at two US universities to pursue the catwalks of the world. Well, they pursued her, as did big fashion names, like Dolce & Gabbana, Yves Saint Laurent and H&M. Banks was also the first African-American woman to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated magazine in 1997.

Away from modelling, Banks has hosted guests as prestigious as President Barack Obama on her popular daytime talk show, The Tyra Show, and made legions of fans with her no-nonsense attitude and attention-grabbing stunts. Such as donning a fat suit

to go undercover as a 160kg woman and “experience” obesity. Or having a sonogram live on her show to prove her breasts are real. In fact, there’s not much she hasn’t done.

Today, Banks is an astute businesswoman and CEO of her own production company, Bankable Productions, and it’s estimated that she earns around US$20 million a year. Add to that her latest work on the global B.I.O campaign, Beauty Inside & Out, an initiative that she hopes will encourage women worldwide to broaden their definitions of beauty. “Beauty doesn’t come in one package: one size, one skin colour, one type of hair,” says Banks. “I want to break the mould and empower women to feel confident and beautiful. True beauty extends far beyond the surface.”

It may sound like a strange philosophy coming from a former Victoria’s Secret runway queen, but Banks is serious – you could even say “fierce”, a word Banks seems to like to use – about her latest mission. Recently announcing the end of The Tyra Show (which airs on Foxtel and Austar’s Arena TV), she says she’s also keen to pursue film production projects, “which will allow me to reach more women and young girls to help us all feel as ‘fierce’ as we truly are”. We asked her to share the beliefs and motivations that have helped her rise to the top – and stay there.

IGNORE THE DOUBTERS
“I think my passion comes from being a black model. I was constantly being told ‘You’re not going to do this because you’re black,’ but I never let that get me down.

I was also nine kilos heavier than the average model. I view the world totally differently now. It’s made me a champion for things that aren’t like the stereotype.

I have this thing where I go in and out of caring what people say about me. Actually, most of the time I don’t give a damn. There are moments where I think there will be people making fun of me and saying, ‘look at your fat ass in a swimsuit’, but I don’t care. I’m a little bit rebellious in terms of saying what I mean, but I just want to make sure I’m reaching the person I want to reach.”

"DEFINE YOUR OWN “SUCCESS”
“I actually liked being able to retire [from the fashion industry] when I was on top (Banks retired from catwalk modelling in 2005). That was an accomplishment for me, as opposed to holding on forever to it. I took my cue from athletes – I love to see athletes who win a championship and then go, ‘I’m gone’. It’s over and they mentor the younger ones. I’m proud and happy and grateful that I’ve been able to transition [from modelling] and do what I’m passionate about.”

"LEARN TO DELEGATE"
“In the early days of ANTM, I would get stomach aches because I was so hands-on; so attached to every creative aspect of the show – from casting the girls, to the budgets, to what the set’s looking like. Now [on season 14] I’m learning that to be a true executive and to grow my company, I have to trust my team. It’s hard, but somebody told me if it’s not hard, it’s not delegating.”

MAKE TIME FOR YOU
“I didn’t used to have a private life. I used to just work all the time, but with my schedule I had no choice. Now, I’ve built in some contractual things to make sure that I can have a life, because I won’t be able to come up with interesting things and talk about my life on my show, if my life is just work.”

TRUST YOUR INTUITION
“My choices are a combination of research and finding out if something is a viable dream, decision or plan. But when I don’t listen to my gut, that’s when something might not be a success. I might just be going off something somebody else wants, rather than doing something that feels organic.”

FIND OUT WHAT MAKES YOU HEALTHY
“I used to work out all the time, but I was always having stomach problems. I have a very, very sensitive stomach and about every three months I would get a debilitating attack that would last for 24 to 48 hours. Recently I went on a challenge with my friends to see who could get the healthiest in three months, and I won. I’ve maintained it now. My body is fitter, but I’ve still got my curves – I wouldn’t be me without this booty!”

…BUT EAT TREATS
“I still indulge. My Twitter followers make fun of me because they say I talk about food all the time, but it’s something that gives me joy. I just know how to balance it to make sure I don’t get sick now.”

BE INSPIRED BY OTHERS
“I look up to my mum, for her strength, her integrity and her kindness. I look up to other amazing women who are also changing the notions of beauty – like US first lady Michelle Obama. I’ve had role models in every stage of my career – as a supermodel, Beverly Johnson; as talk-show host, and in the development of my own brand, Oprah and Martha [Stewart]. I’m dying to meet Richard Branson, he’s definitely a role model for me at this point in my career.”

LOVE YOUR BODY
“Find one thing about you that you can celebrate – it could be your hair, your eyebrows, your feet. Look in a mirror and find that one thing, then find another one. It’s about feeling good and being healthy.”

Sure, Tyra Banks will burp for you. Like some locker-room lout, she’ll also freely chat about all different types of unflattering topics: cellulite, nose hair, hormonal cycles and pretty much any funky bodily function.

“I probably talk about my private life more than the average person,” says Banks, appearing sincere and yowza-level beautiful at 10 a.m. as she sits primly on a big sofa in her Manhattan production office. “I get so descriptive about things that most women feel gross talking about, people probably scream ‘TMI! Too much information!’ ”

The model turned media star’s life is hardly an open book, however. She resists divulging romantic details, plays business deals close to the vest and prefers vague generalities when any touchy subjects come up. “Let’s not go there!” said Banks’ publicist off camera (but on microphone) as Nightline’s Cynthia McFadden asked about gripes by older supermodels Janice Dickinson and Paulina Porizkova, who were both booted off as judges from Banks’ reality series, America’s Next Top Model. While her rep ran interference, Banks sat tight-lipped with a nervous “smize” — that’s “smiling with the eyes,” to those unfamiliar with Bankspeak.

If you want to read the book on her, Amazon.com lists a single volume: the glamour guide titled Tyra’s Beauty Inside & Out, which she co-authored 12 years ago. It’s mostly a breezy makeover manual with few deep insights into her offstage life. But the sassy you-go-girl dynamo who broke out of modeling and served as Oprah Winfrey’s youth correspondent before creating, executive producing and hosting the reality smash Top Model has written an entire library full of more personal works. They’re journals, actually: small unlined notebooks crammed with important notes, to-do lists, travel tips, talent bookings and more, all penned in extremely tiny, tiny print that seemingly only she can decipher.

“She takes notes all day long,” explains Ken Mok, Banks’ longtime producing partner on Top Model. “She writes down what she eats, inspirational ideas, everything.”

Just don’t expect these diaries to ever be published — Banks blogs on her website, Tyra.com, and is on Facebook, but these journals are strictly for her private use. And she’s so nervous they might get lost or stolen that she often refrains from writing TM-real-I inside.

“I wrote a quote in here the other day,” says Banks, 36, as she leafs through the most recent all-in-one notebook that she carries in a purse crammed with crumpled documents, cosmetics and several other essentials. “Here it is: ‘Produce your life like it’s a show.’ I put that quote in because I’m very good at producing television, and I’m extremely hands-on when it comes to handling my business life. From offstage until the moment I walk onstage, I constantly tweak my talk show and Top Model … but at the same time, I often leave my private life by the wayside.”

Banks’ journals are partly a self-help guide, partly a TV textbook and partly a way to organize a highly hectic schedule. Her self-named syndicated talk show ends this month after a five-year run and two Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Talk Show ; remarkably, America’s Next Top Model is now finishing up its 14th cycle; and Banks’ company, Bankable Enterprises, is eager to enter the teen-publishing business as well as to produce feature films and additional TV series.

Despite a frenetic lifestyle, Banks attempts to live a highly organized life. Her office domain is almost frighteningly immaculate, with eight perfectly propped, colorful pillows lining the large L-shaped sofa. Kooky pottery from kitsch designer Jonathan Adler is placed strategically in the room (“I like whimsy,” she says). And every Fiji Water bottle, orchid plant and framed family photograph is set neatly in its place. She slowly sips a Starbucks beverage and speaks in deliberate tones, later letting her hair down and laughing about “the hood” where she grew up, in Inglewood, Calif., as the subject of LA soul food comes up.

Darting from subject to subject isn’t unusual for Banks, whose diverse interests range from good eating (she’s a walking Zagat guide) and interior design (she’ll often attend real estate open houses for decorating tips) to pop music (she released a 2001 single with basketball great Kobe Bryant and performs Top Model’s theme) and acting (she’s had parts in a half-dozen movies, including Coyote Ugly, as well as on TV shows such as Felicity and The Fresh Prince of Bel- Air). By now, Banks’ meteoric rise to success has been fairly well documented, and with all her TV shows over the last year (her résumé also includes ABC’s True Beauty, the second season of which premieres at the end of this month), her annual haul was estimated at $30 million. That’s nothing to burp about.

Given her lifestyle moves, combined with the volatile roller coaster of the television business, a good title for Banks’ future autobiography might be Subject to Change. But that book has yet to be written. Instead, American Way took a cue from her stack of journals, each of which uses various tabs to mark subsections about different subjects, to give a glimpse into the varied parts of Banks’ world.

TRAVEL

When you’re a supermodel, travel comes with the territory. Banks’ various gigs across the globe have turned her into an exemplary jet-setter .

“The first thing I’ll do on a plane after sitting down is to see who’s on the cover of American Way,” she says. “I’ll also put on thick, cushy socks when I fl y. And then whenever I sleep, I’ll cover up my face, because I’m afraid of seeing a picture someday on the Internet showing me with my mouth wide open and drool running down my chin. I learned that from Halle Berry, by the way: Put the blanket over your head when you sleep on a plane!”

Bradford Sisk, production vice president at Bankable and a longtime aide, says Banks especially enjoys colorful world capitals such as Amsterdam and Bangkok. “When we go abroad for Top Model, she’ll have every travel guide highlighted and underlined,” he says. “If we’re not working, there’s not a moment when we’re not seeing all there is to see in that city.”

But Banks says she prefers spending personal holiday time in the United States, citing Orlando, Fla., as her somewhat surprising ideal vacation spot in the world. “I want to see all 50 states, but so far I’ve only been to around 25 of them,” she says. High up on her to-do list: lounging in splendor at the Encantado Resort in Santa Fe, N.M. “I love that city,” she says.

PRIVATE LIFE

Banks has romanced a number of high-profile figures over the past two decades — from her Higher Learning director, John Singleton, to singer Seal — but she keeps quiet on the subjects of dating and marriage. For the last three years, she’s been linked with financier John Utendahl, founder of a large investment-banking firm on Wall Street. The two have been seen and photographed together around New York City but mostly keep their relationship off the radar.

“I’m not sure exactly how gossiping about my life with my audience really helps them,” explains Banks, who adds that she’s never been shy about delving into other areas of her life. “I’m constantly describing my bodily functions, I’m very open about the subject of heartache, but I choose not to share [details about dating], so that very minor part of my private life stays very private.”

She will admit that having a family is moving far up on her agenda. “I talked about adopting a baby when I was 20 years old, before it became ‘hip,’ ” Banks says. “It’s not like I want to hop on a bandwagon, because I said it 15 years ago — bringing a child into your life who is not genetically yours is one of the most beautiful things you can do. But I’m also interested in having my own baby, too. Maybe I’ll do both. In any case, it needs to be sooner rather than later. I’d like to be able to run around with my children.”

FOOD

Banks’ love affair with carbs, fat and sugar is the stuff of legend. Perhaps the most sensational blow came in 2007 when tabloids ran unflattering swimsuit photos of her with the headline “America’s Next Top Waddle.” She took matters into her own hands, announcing that she weighed 161 pounds — a gain of 30 pounds since her modeling days — and using her talk show to tell her critics to kiss off.

These days, Banks is slender again, though she has joked that her cellulite situation is almost a lost cause. A self-admitted “foodie,” she still “loves the grubby, nasty, greasy stuff that’s real good” as well as “the high-end stuff ” in fancier dining establishments. “I like high-low,” she says. “I don’t go to the cool, trendy restaurants. I go to either the holes in the wall or the super-fancy restaurants where there are no cool people.”

One favorite: New York’s fun and frivolous Five Napkin Burger, which she calls “amazing.” Says Five Napkin general manager Todd Cederholm, “Tyra’s been in a few times, and she’s really cool, very outgoing and just generally gives off a great vibe. The whole restaurant was gawking as she and this guy sat at a corner-table banquette and ordered three burgers to share between the two of them.”

MODELING

Following in the footsteps of runway pioneers Beverly Johnson, Iman and one-time rival Naomi Campbell, Banks reigned as arguably the most successful black model of her generation. She broke new ground as the first African-American beauty to grace the cover of GQ and Sports Illustrated’s annual swimsuit edition. Retiring from the business in 2005, she remains connected with the fashion world through her reality show and Tyra.com, which promotes her trademark meme, “Beauty inside and out.”

Leading models today “are known only by a select few people in high fashion,” she says, describing how top actresses and singers like Penelope Cruz and Beyoncé have taken over magazine covers and ad campaigns for clothing and cosmetics. “Models now need to promote themselves, think like businesswomen and diversify their careers by doing other things,” she says. “Chances are very slim that a mere model will become a household name today.”

With Top Model, Banks is careful to cultivate contestants’ cool quirks over their Barbie blush — she calls it “debatable beauty,” and it’s key to the show’s success. “Women who watch Top Model together should disagree,” she says. “I want one to find a certain girl interesting while her friend might feel she looks like a freak. It opens up that narrow view of what little girls are constantly told is ‘beautiful.’ Sure, the show is about modeling and taking an aesthetically and geometrically correct photograph. And, of course, we do show some ‘pretty’ girls. But the majority of them are a little askew. Our underlying message: This girl looks like you.”

TELEVISION

The demise of The Tyra Show was publicized as a mutual decision between its host and the network, though Banks’ associates say, on background, the move was purely a financial decision made by the struggling CW. (The show was syndicated for its first four years, then moved to the CW in September 2009 with the network banking on further branding with Banks via Top Model.) With Oprah Winfrey set to leave her own hit syndicated show, it appeared that opening might have boosted Banks farther up in the overall ratings, especially since she dominated viewing among her young female demographic and felt “ecstatic” about her numbers last fall right before the plug was pulled.

“The network made a mistake in not waiting for the TV advertising crisis to end,” says a longtime associate. “But perhaps there’s a silver lining, because carrying both The Tyra Show and Top Model, there was a perception she was overextending herself.” Some of the bruised feelings relate to the fact that Top Model, originally airing on the old UPN network, was pivotal to the CW’s growth. (Banks literally “pulled the switch” to begin broadcasting the upstart network.) “I’m still really proud of the [viewership] numbers,” she explains. “Even after we announced the show wasn’t returning, we beat many competitors and often came in at number one for our demo. A lot came down to economics — after running numbers and figuring risk versus return, we decided it wasn’t best to bring the talk show back.”

Still, new TV programming plays a large role in Banks’ future, as do moves into motion pictures, book publishing and other media. “I’m trying to build a strong business. I want to create new stars, new shows and new products for my audience and create a legacy that outlives me,” she says. “There are so many other ways I want to reach women besides doing a talk show.”

FUTURE PROJECTS

For Banks, the journey is the destination. “I loved planning The Tyra Show more than actually having to do it,” she explains. “I loved coming up with show ideas, honing each program and crafting it. I’m more excited being in a meeting than being on TV.” These days, Banks is taking plenty of meetings, discussing everything from live stage shows to Internet properties. On the books front, Banks says she has 20 — yes, 20 — projects in various stages of development and expects to publish young-adult fantasy novels along the lines of the Twilight and Harry Potter series. In addition to big media plays, Banks is also making headway in her philanthropy efforts such as her TZONE Foundation, which teaches self-esteem to underprivileged youths.

Today, Banks’ company has a dozen fulltime employees, and she hopes to double that number by year’s end. While her business grows, however, she’s mindful that she’s staking out new turf for a former model and that there’s no ready-made blueprint for her to mimic. “What I’ve done postmodeling has been really difficult because there haven’t been anyone’s footprints that I could follow,” she says. Fortunately, “trailblazer” is a title Banks is quite comfortable with.

I have been waiting and waiting for these pics to surface! It has almost been a year since Tyra shot these, but atleast we got them!! Here are some pics from the shoot and the article posted below! After reading that last sentence, I jumped for joy!!

Tyra Banks may well be the poster child for how to make it in America. Her career moves have taken her from success to success: from teen modeling sensation to barrier-breaking black model (her firsts include the Victoria’s Secret catalog cover and Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover model); from sitcom actress on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air to creator of the wildly popular America’s Next Top Model; from her first daytime gig as a youth correspondent on The Oprah Winfrey Show to host of the Emmy-winning The Tyra Banks Show.
In every instance, even the smallest entry has led to an opportunity that Banks, 36, has blown wide open. But in announcing the end of her daytime talk show, Banks has raised a lot of questions about what’s next for her and her production company, Bankable Enterprises.

We won’t have to wait long to find out. Tune into Banks’ finale on May 28, she says, to see her unveil her big-picture plans. Today, she’s just hinting at what’s ahead: “We’ll be changing up what we all consider fairy tales,” she says. “It’s changed quite a bit since I was a little girl, but still the traditional Prince Charming/princess scenario has a long way to go. Maybe the princess will save the prince, and the princess may have a big nose or a big ol’ booty. Her beauty will still make the prince and the audience swoon.”

Making young women feel beautiful is what Banks calls the official mission of Bankable Enterprises. “Perceptions and stereotypes don’t change overnight, but I feel I was put here to do whatever I can in my power to challenge those stereotypes,” she says. Two recent examples: The Fiercely Real Teen Model Search, a search for plus-size teen models, which she launched this year with plans for it to become an annual contest; and True Beauty, a reality show she helped produce that is set to return this year.

Her still-on-top reality show, America’s Next Top Model (Wednesday nights on WGN, Chicago’s CW), entered its 14th cycle last month with a change in focus and a new face on the judging panel, Vogue’s André Leon Talley. Banks says she talked to Talley eight years ago about joining the first cycle’s cast, but the timing was off. “When I first started America’s Next Top Model, we were very careful not to make the show too high-fashion as we wanted to bring this elite, insider industry to the masses,” she says. “We wanted it to be relatable and inviting. This time we felt our viewers were ready for it.”

While there are no Chicago contestants to root for in the current cycle, our city is usually represented—often disproportionately—in the winners circle: Three ANTM winners have been from the Chicago area (McKey, Jaslene and Adrianne). “I think city girls in general have a certain attitude, a confident way of carrying themselves that’s really essential in the fashion industry,” Banks explains. “Chicago girls have that edge.”

Chicago is also the place Banks got her start in daytime TV, during a stint as a youth correspondent for Oprah in the late ’90s. Banks cites Oprah as an inspiration and is flattered by any comparisons, but humbly bows down to the media queen. “Oprah is the God Momma, and there will never be another Oprah,” she says.

Like Oprah, Banks has used her talk show as a vehicle to speak openly about her own struggles and relate to fans on a big-sister level; from being bullied by Naomi Campbell as a young runway model to her ongoing issues with weight and body image. (In case you’re wondering, the secret to maintaining her recent weight loss, she says, is a five-days-a-week cardio regimen of alternating 30 minutes on either the stationary bike or elliptical machine.)

And while her success seems to have come quite easily, she says it was incredibly difficult to transition from supermodel to supermogul. “No one took me seriously,” she says. After winning a Daytime Entertainment Emmy for The Tyra Banks Show in 2008, she shares, “I couldn’t control myself. I was bawling. I thought of every person who said, ‘You can’t.’ And at that moment I felt so proud. I took a big sigh of relief and said to myself, ‘See, yes. Yes you can.’”

If we’ve learned anything by watching Banks, it’s that we can’t under estimate her ability to outthink and outmaneuver her detractors—especially now, as plans for her production company unfold. “I don’t want to give too much away, but there will be books, there will be films—and, who knows?—I could be coming back into your homes on the TV screen sooner than you thought."

What's Tyra Like??

So some of you know that this past week 4 other girls and I were invited to go up to New York for a taping of the Tyra show. This of course did not come easily we were grilled with ALL sorts of questions to prove that we were Tyra's BIGGEST fans or as they called us SUPER FANS!!! I cannot touch on what the show was about at this moment because it has not aired, But I will tell you that I was so glad to be apart of this show because not only was it for her superfans but about something she is VERY Pssionate about!

The question I keep getting from everyone around me is what is Tyra like!? Alot of people say that when you meet your hero or someone you look up to you probably won't like them as much anymore, but with Tyra it was the complete opposite. If it's possible to give her any more love and respect than I allready had then that is what happened. This lady is so Genuine and so REAL it's crazy!! She could have easily done what she was suppose to do, (ask us our questions shoot a smile our way and call it a day) but that was not the case! The LOVE was truly there and felt. She talked to us in between breaks, invited us to sit in the audience and finish watching the taping (even tho some of the staff were trying to shoo us back upstairs to our green rooms), and as if that wasn't enough for the last segment she called us back on stage and we got to help her answer questions. It was simply AMAZING!!! Actually there are no words to describe it!

Needless to say she is absolutely stunning up close. If you are like me and you see pics and watch her on tv and you're just in awe it's like 10x that affect when you are staring her eye to eye!! In my opinion, she wasn't even wearing alot of makeup becuase you could still see her freckles!! Even though she is beautiful on the outside it was her inner beauty that really got to me... JUST WOW!!

We also received autographed pictures of Tyra with our names on them saying Stay fierce love Tyra, which is something else she did just because she wanted too! We got them in the green room before the show and I immediately broke out into tears!! I was so scared because I had already gone through hair and make up and they said I better not cry and mess up their work, but I couldn't fight the tears. I just stared at the picture in disbelief and kept questioning "Why Me?" It was unreal!

Now here is where i really did some growing emotionally once again at the hands of Tyra. As we were leaving I was suppose to be riding to the airport with one of the girls and her mom. As we were walking out the door one of the producers said that Tyra wanted to see her and only her for a quick second. MY HEART DROPPED!! I wasn't mad at Tyra, I wasn't made at Emily, I was mad at myself. And I'll be honest I felt like OMG Tyra doesn't like me!! (crazy right? sorry Im only human!) I went on and got in the car and started my descent to the airport with tears in my eyes! We probably got 2 blocks up the street and I checked my self. I just experienced THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE and experienced something I couldn't have even dreamed of and realized that I was being SELFISH!! There are SOOO many girls who would have Killed to have been apart of what I had been apart of. I wiped the tears from my eyes and thought about all the things tyra has given me,(strength, confidence, a belief that I can do what ever I put my mind to, and I have almost defeated my fear of planes w/ch i only got on to go see Tyra) And that is something no object could ever compare too... EVER!!!

So Tyra if you are reading this, I cannot say thank you enough and I really can't even put into words how much you have done for me or even begin to Thank you enough! Just know that YOUR spirit lives in me and that it lives in my friends through me and so on and so on and That your message has reached millions whether they want to admit it or not. YOU HAVE IMPACTED OUR SOCIETY IN A WAY NO ONE ELSE HAS AND WE THANK YOU FOR THAT!! So on behalf of all your fans and super fans We love you Ty and we thank you so very much!

I was watching some past interviews, this one from the 2009 daytime Emmys, and ran across this Q&A back stage. Tyra speaks of a scripted show that she came up with (couldn't catch the name, someone help me with that one) but was unable to pursue b/c of her full plate of other endeavors, but says that maybe we will see some scripted shows in 2011. I'm thinking this may be HIGHLY likely, now that she has ended her talk show to pursue her production company. Needless to say, whether or not she does decide to do the scripted show or not, there are going to be some BIG THINGS POPPIN from Bankable Productions!! I'm excited ;-)

Top Model Gone Top Secret

There has been alot of sneakines and mischief on the hands of Top model producers and Staff starting from the first day the top model contestants arrived!

Lets start with the arrival of Miranda Kerr Australian Supermodel and also a victoria secret model's arrival into New Zealand. I cannot say whether or not she will be on cycle 14 ANTM but she was pictured coming through the gate shortly after Mr. Jay! The twist here is...she walked straight past any of the ANTM production staff and headed in the opposite direction with her boyfried Orlando Bloom hmm.....

*A secondary theory is that Orlando Bloom (star of Lord of the Rings) will be making a guest appearance for the photoshoot planned for the girls entitled "Lord of the Bling" <-- I don't know how much truth there is to that one.

Then there was the arrival of the ANTM contestants! The new zealand press hounded this woman (pictured below) thinking that she was Tyra banks. They yelled "Tyra Tyra Happy Birthday, Tyra can you give us any info on the upcoming cycle" and things of that nature! Of course we know this was not Tyra and was rumored to be a contestant. Now my belief is that this is another decoy because there were three other girls who were being surrounded by umbrellas and scarves so much that they were unable to be seen! So could be it be that only three girls will be going overseas?? Also keeping in mind that they will only be filming their for 12 days!

Lastly there was the "arrival" of Tyra Banks at the New Zealand airport late friday early saturday morning. Production staff surrounded the woman below with umbrellas and wrapped a scarf around her to give reporters and fans the belief that Tyra was indeed in the country.

However, pictured below are pics of Tyra leaving the U.S. airport later saturday night!

Does anyone else find this very entertaining?? There is so much more that I can't even begin to touch on!

OCEAN DRIVE: How are you changing the format of your talk show now that it has moved to the CW?
TYRA BANKS: I changed the skin of the show and the music—now it’s hip, modern, fresh, energetic. We have one of the youngest audiences so I want the show to move fast. Because of the Internet and all these outlets pulling them in so many different directions, their attention span is shorter. I want the best of the best to be on the show and not drag a topic on just because we’re supposed to do it for an hour.

What are your favorite stories to work on?
I love dealing with teens. I feel like I’m their big sister and that I can say things to them that they wouldn’t necessarily accept from their parents. They also say stuff to me that they don’t say to their parents.

And you’re their mentor.
Yes! I’m also taking the bull by the horns and doing live makeovers on stage to show my expertise in makeup. For America’s Next Top Model we’re now calling makeovers “Ty-overs” because they are my vision of what the girls should look like. I take audience members, put them on stage, and with my makeup belt on, shout, “Should I give her a smoky eye?” I have a live band and the singer follows with, “Smoky eyeeeee!” I was inspired by Emeril Lagasse, like when he says, “Should I add some cayenne pepper to this stew?” and the audience is like, “Yeaaah!” Well, I wanted to do that with makeovers. Girls used to line up in front of me backstage at fashion shows in Paris, New York and Milan because they wanted me to do their makeup.

Was it years of modeling that gave you that skill?
My mom is the queen of makeup and when I was a little girl, I used to sit at the end of the bathtub and watch her put on her makeup every single morning as she was going to work.

You grew up in LA, right? Do you go back often?
I go back to LA for decorator showhouses. They are a passion of mine! I’ve been going for years with my mom. I will fly out from New York when a new showhouse in LA or Pasadena has opened. That’s how passionate I am. Just looking at all the rooms, and talking to the designers.

I didn’t know that! Did you decorate your apartment?
My very first apartment in New York I decorated all on my own. Now I’ll work with designers, but I’m extremely hands-on.

What styles do you like—traditional, modern, eclectic?
I tend to like eclectic meets whimsical meets traditional.

When are you happiest?
I am happy when I am doing anything that has to do with planning, creating, facilitating. I’m also happiest in my mom’s kitchen.

Do you cook a lot?
Oh, hell, no! I’m cooking frozen dinners and stuff in there, but my mom cooks breakfast for me when I’m home.

Do you have any vices?
Yeah, frozen yogurt.

That’s not really a vice.
Well, I don’t smoke or drink. I don’t like the taste of spirits. The most alcohol I ever had was when I was 12 years old and drank the neck of a wine cooler. It was nasty, and I never drank alcohol again. But I know what everything tastes like. I’ve had a sip of wine, a sip of Champagne, a sip of a real piña colada, an amaretto sour. I know what it tastes like, it tastes nasty, and I don’t like it.

What is your fitness regime?
I moved a couch out of my living room and put in an elliptical and a treadmill. I do about 30 minutes a day, three to four times a week. I sold the world my fat ass, but then I went on a get-fit, get-healthy challenge with some friends to see who could get the fittest in three months. I actually won because I’m very competitive. And then the press started picking up on it, and going, “Oh, my gosh, Tyra’s looking like her old self,” and I was very torn about whether to talk about it or not, because I don’t want women to think that by me getting in shape I’m saying that their curves are bad. I still have what my stylist calls “levels,” meaning boobs that stick out, a butt that sticks out. I have an issue with my stomach—I suffer from these stomach attacks that happen every two to three months—but I haven’t had one since I started this challenge with my friends.

What is your beauty regimen?
I wash my face with Shu Uemura cleanser—it’s like an oil makeup remover—and then I wash my face one more time with Aveeno bars from the drugstore for dry skin. Then I put some Aveda hydrating lotion on my face and a little chilled Kiehl’s Eye Treatment with Avocado under my eyes. I tie my hair up every single night when I go to bed because I don’t want split ends.

Who are some of your favorite designers?
I went through this phase of loving certain designers, but only when I was walking in their fashion shows. So I loved Chanel, I loved Armani, Calvin Klein, Anna Sui. But when it came to my personal life, I looked like a pig! I wore sweats and flipflops and was a damn mess. I looked so bad that a friend had an intervention with me and said, “Tyra, you need to pull it together. You need to comb your hair and get out of the sneakers and sweats.” I just started shopping for myself and styling myself and I discovered that I love Alexander McQueen. His clothes make me feel so girly. When I go into his store, I get all giddy and excited and want everything.

And it’s very form-fitted. Yes, because I’m curvy, I have to show my waist. So he really, you know, cuts for a very curvy woman, which is really good.

Now let’s talk about Miami.
When I think about South Beach, I think about my days as a model. A lot of my jobs were in South Beach. I was a businesswoman as a 20-year-old model even before I was a businesswoman, so I would always think about the budget. And I could never understand who would bother traveling to these different islands all over the world. I would be like, Why did we go all the way to Timbuktu when we could have just gone to South Beach? It would still look gorgeous and tropical. I used to stay at The Raleigh hotel back in the day. And I actually remember the Delano being remodeled, and being so impressed with the big curtains out front. I was like, Woooo! That’s different—outside curtains. Now they’re normal, but they were cutting-edge at the time. I’m a little intimidated by South Beach, though.

Why?
Because it’s so popping, you know? The night vibe is so cool, but because I don’t drink or party, I feel really intimidated. I guess I’m more of an Orlando girl, a Disney girl. OD

Tyra Banks in Delta's Air Magazine

Season Five of Tyra Banks’ talk show kicked off this week on the CW, and her online magazine, Tyra, also debuted this week, though she was already hard at it when I visited with her in New York in July. If past shows have been any indication, we can expect to see her interview more big-name “gets” this year, although, surprisingly, she confessed to not being particularly fierce when it comes to stalking celebrity interviews.

“You know, when I first started my talk show, I made a couple of calls, but I have to admit that I’m a little shy,” she told us. “I’ve had staff say to me, ‘Pick up the phone and call so-and-so, Barbara Walters picks up the phone.’ And I say to them, ‘Yes, but she’s Barbara Walters!’ I don’t know if it’s fear of rejection, so I don’t do it as much as I possibly should. I’ll just approve who we decide to go after.”

She was equally candid about her interviewing technique in the early days. “I was so self conscious and so not listening to the person and veering off and thinking about my next question.” However, she thinks she’s steadily improved. “My time off in the summer kicks me to be even more real, more raw, more inquisitive and more relaxed. I call it ‘See it, Say it.’ If you see it happening, say it. Before, I would see or hear something and think, ‘Ha ha, that was weird and awkward.’ Now I’ll say, ‘OK, that was really crazy what you just said, and I feel like you’re lying to me.’”
